Kovalainen wins
Finn takes first win in Hungary

McLaren driver Heikki Kovalainen has won the first Grand Prix of his short career.

He started second on the grid behind team mate Lewis Hamilton but it was Ferrari driver Felipe Massa who got the best start.

Massa lead Hamilton for the majority of the race until the Briton suffered a puncture shortly before his second stop that dropped him to tenth place. He would later fight back to finish fifth.

Hamiltons puncture promoted Kovalainen to second but at almost half-a-minute behind it was looking like a Ferrari win.

That was until, with just three laps to go, Massas Ferrari V8 blew up on the start finish straight, gifting Kovalainen his first victory.

Timo Glock finished second for Toyota after running fourth for most of the race before Massa and Hamiltons problems.

Kimi Raikkonen finished third for Ferrari. After a poor qualfying result he was stuck behind Fernando Alonso for most of the race before jumping the Spaniard at the second stops.

The rest of the points went to: Alonso in fourth, Hamilton in fifth, Nelson Piquet sixth for Renault, Jarno Trulli seventh for Toyota and Robert Kubica in eighth for BMW
