BF3: Round 9 - Silverstone
Turvey takes double and title lead

SILVERSTONE

Round nine of a very close British Formula Three Championship came from the home of British Motorsport.

In the International Class Jamie Alguersuari driver for Carlin is just one point ahead of Sergio Perez of T-Sport, while in the National Class Jay Bridger is opening up a big lead.

Oliver Turvey of Carlin won the first race, he started from pole but got a bad start and fell behind team-mate Brendon Hartley but he was able to regain the lead when the New-Zealand driver over-steered at Copse.

Behind the front two was Marcus Ericsson of Fortec, ahead of the battling championship contenders. Perez beating Alguersuari as they finished fourth and fifth.

That result coupled with Turvey’s win means that ahead of race two, there was just three points separating the three drivers.

Sixth in race one was John Martin of Double R, Max Chilton of Hitech was seventh, Sam Abay was eighth for Carlin, Nick Tandy was ninth for JTR with Atte Mustonen tenth for Double R

Stefan Wilson won the National Class for Fluid, Jay Bridger was second also driving for Fluid with Hywel Lloyd third for CF.

Turvey completed a double to take the championship lead in race two. In an opposite of race one, Turvey got a good start and lead while Hartley got away badly and fell down the order.

Turvey had Ericsson for company through out the race but the Swede was never close enough to challenge and finished second.

Tandy completed the podium, with Perez fourth to move ahead of Alguersuari in the championship, who could only finish sixth. Splitting them was Mustonen.

Behind Alguersuari in seventh was Martin, Michael Devaney was eighth for Ultimate followed by Hartley and Chilton to round out the points.

Lloyd won the National Class with Bridger in second and Salman Al-Khalifa of T-Sport in third.

Turvey’s double win jumps him to the head of the championship, he now has 192 points, Perez is second with 183 and after a bad weekend Alguersuari has dropped to third place with 178 points.

In the National Class Bridger leads with 261 points, Steven Guerrero of T-Sport is second with 183 points while the still absent Andy Merick has dropped to third on 174 points.
