BF3 - Round 10 - Romania
Turvey closing in on title

Round ten of British Formula Three was held in Bucharest, Romania this weekend. After the opening rounds Oliver Turvey leads the championship for Carlin with 192 points. Jay Bridger leads the National Class for Fluid with 261 points.

Race one was dominantly won by Carlin driver Brendon Hartley, he lead from the start and built a lead before the safety car took to the Romanian streets for a crash lower down the order

It didn’t affect him as he re-established his advantage and took victory by 5.8 seconds from his championship leading team-mate, Turvey.

Alguersuari completed a 1-2-3 for Carlin as he lost more ground in the championship but the third contender, Sergio Perez of T-Sport lost even more ground as he retired with a blown engine while running in eighth place.

Following the Carlin’s home were: Esteban Guerrieri of Ultimate in fourth, Sam Abay in another Carlin fifth, Max Chilton of Hitech sixth ahead of a Double R double with Atte Mustonen seventh and John Martin eighth. Walter Grubmuller was ninth for Hitech with Michael Devaney completing the points for Ultimate.

Only three National Class drivers made it to the end of the race, Salman Al-Khalifa was first for T-Sport in twelfth place overall, Hywel Lloyd was second for CF with Bridger third as the last classified finisher.

Alguersuari won the second race to close the gap on Turvey, but not by much as Turvey finished second. It was another disastrous for Perez after he was pushed into a spin by Chilton and was then collected by Ricardo Teixeira of Ultimate. With only one round to go Perez’s hope of winning the championship now seam over.

Third was Hartley following up on his earlier win. Guerrieri was again fourth, Devaney fifth Grubmuller sixth, Oliver Oakes seventh for Eurotek, Abay was eighth. Ninth overall was the National Class winner Stefan Wilson of Fluid, Lloyd was tenth overall and second in the National Class while Bridger was again the third National Class finisher.

In the championship, after the penultimate round, Turvey leads with 222 points, Alguersuari has 210 points and Hartley is now third with 192. With only one round to go it is looking like a straight fight between Turvey and Alguersuari.

Bridger has secured the National Class with 286 points, but the battle for second is still on as Lloyd is second with 195 and Guerrero is third with 191 points.
