Paul Frere remembered at Spa
Stavelot renamed in honour

Sep.5 (GMM) Spa-Francorchamps circuit authorities announced on Friday that turn 15, currently known as Stavelot, will be renamed in memory of Paul Frere.

Located at the top of the famous Belgian circuit, the newly renamed 'Curve Paul Frere' marks the beginning of the ultra fast final sector of the 7km layout.

Runner up in the 1956 Belgian grand prix at the wheel of a Ferrari, Frere also won the Le Mans 24 hours in 1960, sharing his car with Olivier Gendebien.

After his racing career ended Frere turned his hand to writing, and his 1963 book 'Sports Car and Competitive Driving' remains a standard text for aspiring drivers.

The Belgian died in February at the age of 91.
