Fernando Alonso again proved the master of the Marina Bay circuit in Singapore with a blistering lap of 1:44.506, some six tenths faster than next man Lewis Hamilton and the closely following Felipe Massa, in the Ferrari, and Nelson Piquet in the second Renault.
Nico Rosberg came home fifth in another strong effort from Williams, with Jenson Button putting in another fine showing in the Honda for sixth, Robert Kubica seventh in the BMW and Mark Webber eight in the Red Bull, ahead of the two STR cars of Seb’s Vettel and Bourdais.
The session went badly for Kimi Raikkonen, the World Champion locking up and having to park in an escape road, while Giancarlo Fisichella crashed his Force India at the notorious Turn 10 and would take no further part in the proceedings.
