We are hearing that there will be no French Grand Prix in 2009, according to an announcement made by the French motor sport federation – FFSA – today in Paris.
The reason given is that of ‘economic problems’, with the FFSA believing that the losses the race is sure to make if held next year can not be shouldered as they do not have the financial resources available.
The French Grand Prix has been the subject of much speculation of late, with current venue Magny Cours out of favour, and the FFSA insisted it had received applications from a number of different venues to hold the race in 2010.
The intention is to bring the race back to the calendar from 2010 onwards, but with a different promoter than the FFSA.
