
The last round of World Series by Renault was round nine held at Barcelona, Spain. New Champion Giedo Van Der Garde missed the race due to his new commitments in GP2 Asia for iSport, therefore his P1 team elected to run only one car.
The first race was on by Julien Jousse of Tech 1 Racing who took his maiden series win after two years of trying.
Mikhail Aleshin finished second for Carlin and was followed home by team mate Robert Wickens to complete the podium.
Filipe Albuquerque was fourth for Epsilon-Euskadi, Fabio Carbone fifth for Ultimate-Signature, Alvaro Barba sixth for Prema Powerteam, James Walker was seventh for Fortec, Charles Pic eighth for Tech 1, and Alexandre Marsoin finished ninth for Epsilon-Euskadi with Duncan Tappy completing the top ten for RC.
Marco Bonanomi of Comtec suffered a huge accident during the race, the incident ruled him out of the second race, but to the mechanics being unable to repair his car in time.
Esteban Guerrieri won race two for Ultimate Signature, Walker was second with Wickens again finishing third to complete the podium. This result secured a strong end of the season for the 2008 Star of Tomorrow #2.
Bertrand Baguette was fourth for Draco, race one winner Jousse was fifth, Fairuz Fauzy was sixth for Fortec, Miguel Molina was seventh for Prema Powerteam, Pic was eighth, Albuquerque ninth and Fabio Carbone completing the final top ten of the season for Ultimate Signature.
In the final championship standings, we already knew that Van Der Garde was champion. He non-entry means that his total point remains on 137. The battle for second was the main prize on the last day, and it went to Carbone who beat Jousse by 90 points to 88. 2008 Stars of Tomorrow #10 driver, Charles Pic ended in an impressive fifth place, finishing with 63 points, while #2 driver, Wickens, ended the season twelfth with 37 points after joining the series late.
