With just a few hours to go before the season finale at Interlagos, the Sao Paulo circuit is under heavy cloud with steady rain falling.
Forecasters are unanimous in predicting steady rain for the rest of the day, adding to the tension that surrounds the outcome of the World Championship.
Both Felipe Massa - starting from pole position in the Ferrari - and Lewis Hamilton, who starts fourth in the McLaren, would clearly prefer less troublesome dry weather, although it is believed McLaren have built into their strategy the possibility of a safety car period - markedly more likely in the rain.
If the weather is sufficiently treacherous it could, in fact, play into Hamiltons hands at the start as the worst conditions require teh field to start behind the safety car, thus eliminating the risk of a first corner incident.
Traditionally this season McLaren - and Hamilton in particular - have had the edge over Massa and Ferrari in wet conditions.
