A new era of Formula One beckons following the meeting of the World Motor Sport Council which convened this morning in Monaco to ratify the cost cutting agreement hammered out between the FOTA and FIA.
In the aftermath of the Honda withdrawal the governing body and the teams had agreed that radical cost reductions were needed, and today’s meeting has agreed the following:
A complete ban on in season testing bar that conducted over a Grand Prix weekend;
A reduction in wind tunnel use – from January 1st no tunnels exceeding 60 percent scale and 50 metres per second will be allowed;
A compulsory six week factory shutdown across each year;
Engines to be reduced to a rev limit of 18,000rpm and a limit of eight engines per driver imposed across the season, with four extra allowed for testing purposes. In addition, engines will be expected to last three races, rather than the current two.
The above are all immediately imposed, and we
understand further agreement has been made with regard to future years for which information will be forthcoming in time.
Budgets are expected to be cut by one third via the implementation of only the mentioned changes.
There is no mention, as yet, of the standard engine proposal, although any further information will be brought to you as we receive it.
