Jan.9 (GMM) Donington Park on Thursday was shown a green light by local council planners to begin work on a 110m euro circuit upgrade ahead of the 2010 British grand prix.
The permission, decided with unanimous support, was granted during a special meeting of the North West Leicestershire District Council.
"It's the culmination of six years' hard work -- and I'm sure there's six more to come," said track chief executive Simon Gillett.
Details about the precise source of the funding for the project are still to be finalised, but the path is otherwise clear for Donington to be reprofiled, and a new pit and paddock complex, grandstands and media centre to be built.
