Power to replace Castroneves
Penske to run all-Aussie line-up

Australian Will Power is set to replace Helio Castroneves at Team Penske during the 2009 IndyCar season. The 2008 runner-up is still tied to a court case on charges of tax evasion. Penske officials confirmed to The Indianapolis Star that - should the Brazilian remain unavailable - Power will be his replacement for 2009.

Team president Tim Cindric: "While Helio prepares for his court case, we're excited to welcome (Power) to the team. Will has already proved that he's a terrific racer."

While most bets were on Justin Wilson or Ryan Hunter-Reay, both out of a ride at their respective teams, the choice for Will Power is certainly no total suprise. The 27-year-old Australian, who made his IRL debut last season for KV, won three Champ Car races and is considered one of the fastest drivers of the paddock.

However, Power was left hung out to dry when his Aussie Vineyards sponsorship left KV Racing after the Australian Surfers' Paradise race fell through. But Power will now most likely get his chance in a top drive.

Helio Castroneves - indicted in October for tax evasion - faces a trial in March, just weeks before the start of the new season. According to our sources, it remains highly unlikely the Brazilian will return to the grid in time, if he's able to return at all in 2009.

By signing Power, Team Penske will now run an all-Aussie line-up in their assault for the 2009 championship, with fellow Australian and double race-winner Ryan Briscoe remaining in the second car.

An official announcement is due later today.
