The third day of testing at Portimao finally provided some dry running, giving the teams a chance to run in 2009 specification on slick tyres.
Sebastien Buemi was again quickest in the 2008 STR but it was Williams, the FW31 in the hands of Nico Rosberg, who ran closest. Experiencing little in the way of problems, the German took the Toyota-powered car to well over a hundred laps, much more than any of its rivals.
Lewis Hamilton was back in action in the Mclaren MP4-24, and declared himself happy with the first impressions of the car, while Toyota had Timo Glock at the wheel of the TF109 and Renault ran Fernando Alonso in the new R29.
Ferrari continued to test alone at Mugello and BMW likewise at Valencia.
