Bernie Ecclestone’s desire to see an F1 race in India appears to be as strong as ever if his comments on the BBC’s Asian Network are to be believed. Ecclestone commented on plans for a race in 2011, saying:
“Of course we will deliver... otherwise we wouldn't have entered into an agreement. It's a large, large country with a big population and it's good for the sponsors, car manufacturers and everyone involved in Formula One."
Furthermore, UpdateF1 has learned of a major construction project in the Noida area, in Utter Pradesh State, that a source informs us is the basis of the circuit upon which the race will run.
Noida is an area that was once open land but has now been developed into a combination of industrial, commercial and residential areas alongside the necessary irrigation.
We are told that a major expressway is planned from Delhi to Noida – approximately 60km - and that this is part of the infrastructure necessary to to the circuit. The project, it would seem, is being carried out very quietly, perhaps due to political influences involved.
The controversy, we hear, is over the ownership of the enormous swathe of land dedicated to the project, land which we are told belongs to a local government minister. The individual concerned is said to be in line for a considerable sum in payment for the land.
We will keep you posted as to any further developments but, in the meantime, keep Updated at UpdateF1.
