Scott Dixon finished on top on day one of the first 2009 IndyCar test at the Homestead-Miami speedway. The defending champion posted a best lap average of 211.372 mph, holding off Penske's Ryan Briscoe and team mate Dario Franchitti. Rookie Robert Doornbos impressed on his debut, posting a seventh time out of 20 cars.
Ganassi's Scott Dixon kicks off the season in usual fashion by posting the best time at Homestead. In absence of team mate Helio Castroneves, Penske's Ryan Briscoe was the only one to come close during the six-hour session at the 1,5 mile oval. 2007 champion and series returnee Dario Franchitti (Ganassi) ended up in third.
The first open test session saw some early surprises, as KV's Mario Moraes and Penske's Will Power impressed on their debut for their respective new outfits. Rookie Robert Doornbos (NHL) found himself near to top of the timetables all night and went home with an impressive seventh time.
Other rookie Mike Conway posted a 15th time for Dreyer & Reinbold, while last-minute arrival Justin Wilson couldn't get higher than 19th for Dale Coyne followed by Stanton Barrett in his first open test with Team 3G.
Testing will continue today with another six-hour session.
