The final test before the start of the 2009 Grand Prix season got underway at Jerez on Sunday, with Rubens Barrichello and the amazing Brawn BGP001 setting the pace once more.
The Brazilian lapped in a quickest time in the low 1:19’s, and ended the day some six tenths quicker than Fernando Alonso in the Renault R29 – who crashed early in the session – and Nico Hulkenberg in the Williams FW31.
The second day has begun with the Brawn, still in Barrichellos hands, lowering the bar to 1:18.398 within the first 16 laps, with Alonso again trailing and Lewis Hamilton, McLaren having chosen to run from Monday through to Thursday, in third with the MP4-24, at this moment some one and a half seconds off the pace.
Nico Rosberg trails Hamilton in the Williams, and only these four teams will be testing this week.
