The second day of testing at Jerez - the last group test before the Australian Grand Prix in little under two weeks - saw Brawn GP continue to shine, although today it was local boy Fernando Alonso who ended the day with his name at the top of the time sheets.
Alonso put in a late flying lap to record a time of 1:18.343, and had earlier indulged in several lengthy stints during which the Renault R29 set a decent pace, and he headed the Brawn pair - Jenson Button having a run in the car in the middle of the day - by less that a tenth of a second in the case of Rubens Barrichello and a further few tenths for Button.
Mclaren were seen trying a number of new aerodynamic fitments, and Lewis Hamilton did attempt longer runs but was interrupted by a trip off road. However, the world champion pedalled the MP4-24 around in 1:19.513 at one point, a vast improvement on recent times and around one second away from the fastest time of the day.
Williams had Nico Rosberg on hand to put in a healthy lap count of well over one hundred, albeit recording the slowest time of the day, a couple of tenths down on Hamilton's best.
All four teams continue testing tomorrow.
