GP2 Testing: Barcelona - 23/03/2009
Di Grassi tops day one

The last test session of the 2009 season opened today at the Catalunya Circuit near Barcelona where the thirteen GP2 Teams gathered once more for a three-day session. On a track that will host the very first round of the new season next May, all drivers are eager to fine tune the last details on their machines in order to be ready as soon as the championship kicks off.

Already quickest two weeks ago at Paul Ricard, the Brazilian Lucas di Grassi set the pace again this afternoon after Alvaro Parente at Ocean Racing Technology signed the quickest lap time of the morning session in a 1:27.733.

The Portuguese was a close second this afternoon ahead of Belgian Jérôme D’Ambrosio at Dams who signed the second fastest lap time in the morning session and third best of the day.
Russian Vitaly Petrov at Barwa Campos was followed by the ART Grand Prix line up, the experienced Pastor Maldonado ahead of rookie Nico Hulkenberg.

Javier Villa confirmed the good form of his Super Nova machine while Davide Valsecchi at Durango is back in the Top 10 along with Piquet GP Roldan Rodriguez and GP2 Asia Series leader Kamui Kobayashi at Dams.

Tomorrow’s morning session will start at 9am, local time.
