BF3: Round 1 - Oulton Park
Aussie dominates British

Preseason the championship favourites in the British Formula Three Championship were Daniel Ricciardo, the Australian driving for Carlin and his teammate Oliver Oakes.

Other drivers of note included Wayne Boyd the dominant British Formula Ford Champion for 2008 who drivers for T-Sport, where he joined a personal favorite of mine Adriano Buzaid who moves up from British Formula Renault. The Hitech team was lead by Walter Grubmuller, with Daisuke Nakajima, the brother of Kazuki Nakajima at Double R and Riki Christodoulou the top man at Fortec.

The opening weekend was at Oulton Park held back on Easter Monday on April 13. The first race of the season was won by Ricciardo with Nick Tandy second for JTR and Grubmuller completing the podium.

Nakajima put in an impressive performance to finish fourth, with Christodoulou fifth, Buzaid sixth ahead of teammate Boyd. Hywel Lloyd was eighth in his first race after stepping up from the National Class, with Oliver Oakes ninth and Fortec driver Victor Garcia tenth.

Max Chilton started on pole but fell foul to rather harsh rules for a jump start. He crossed the line second but had sixty seconds added to his race time dropping him to seventeenth.

The first National Class win of 2009 went to Daniel McKenzie of Fortec ahead of Gabriel Dias for T-Sport and Maxim Snegirev third in class for West-Tec

Race two was the same dominant performance for Ricciardo following a restart following a crash between Wayne Boyd and Gabriel Dias.

Grubmuller was second, Tandy third, Chilton fourth, Nakajima fifth, Christodoulou sixth, Buzaid seventh, Oakes eighth, Henry Arundel was ninth for Carlin with Garcia tenth.

McKenzie again won the National Class, with Snegirev second and Victor Correa finishing third for Litespeed.

After an opening double Riccido lead the championship with forty out of forty with Grubmuller and Tandy tied on twenty-eight after a second and third each. After a similar double McKenzie leads the National Class with forty-two, with Snegirev second on twenty-seven and Dias fifteen.
