As Toyota celebrated qualifying one and two in Bahrain earlier this afternoon, the Japanese team had extra reason to celebrate tonight as their test driver Kamui Kobayashi successfully wrapped up the GP2 Asia Series championship.
The twenty-two year old DAMS driver started todays feature race from pole position but dropped back to only finish fourth but with his main championship rival Davide Valsecchi of Durango having a very bad race, coming home in sixteenth place it was enough to hand Kobayashi the title.
This championship is his first since he won the Eurocup Formula Renault 2.0 and the Formula Renault 2.0 Italia both in 2005.
In GP2 the cars may be manufactured by Renault, so technically in GP2 terms the car in front is not a Toyota - but the driver in front is.
As always UpdateSport will bring you a complete review of all the GP2 Asia Series action in our exclusive report published after tomorrows sprint race.
