I'm going for the win - Tracy
Canadian veteran returns to Indy 500

It's May, and for a fan of American open wheels that only means one thing: The Indy 500 is coming closer. As we anticipate the 93rd running of the 500 miles of Indianapolis, we will bring regular updates about both on and off-track action.

This year's Indy 500 marks the return of a real fan favourite. Canadian veteran Paul Tracy will return to the series after almost a year on the sidelines. Tracy will drive the number 15 GEICO/KV Racing car, teaming up with long-time colleagues Kevin Kalkhoven and Jimmy Vasser.

Tracy: "I think it's great. I've known Kevin since he got into the car. Then Jimmy got involved with him. We've been competitors. But Kevin has always been very friendly with me, has said to me on a couple of different occasions that at some point he would like me to drive for him. So we've finally got that opportunity to do that. I couldn't be happier."

It will be the first appearance for PT at Indy since the controversial 2002 edition, in which Tracy crossed the line in first but was demoted to second for overtaking Helio Castroneves under yellow. Castroneves was then declared the winner of the race.

On Wednesday, the Indy Racing League held a teleconference with the Canadian, who expressed his excitement coming back to Indy. Ambitious as ever, Tracy is looking for a win.

Tracy: "For me, the only reason I want to go there is to try to win. It's not to go there to qualify and make the field and have a good day. If we can do that and generate a lot of media for our sponsor with GEICO, hopefully we can grow this into something bigger and better. Right now the focus is just on Indianapolis. If that goes well enough, then maybe we can get into the races in Canada or maybe more," says the Canadian.

It remains to be seen whether we will see Paul Tracy at some additional races this season, but given his popularity a ticket for the two Canadian races is more than likely.

A full transcript of the teleconference with Paul Tracy is available in our magazine, Full Throttle!
