BF3: Round 2 - Silverstone
Ricciardo extends lead

The second of the British Formula Three championship was held at Silverstone Grand Prix circuit over the bank holiday weekend, with the first race on Sunday and the second on Monday.

In the championship after the opening round Daniel Ricciardo of Carlin leads following his double win at Oulton Park. Walter Grubmuller of Hitech and Nick Tandy of JTG were second tied on twenty eight points, twelve behind Ricciardo.

After a double of his own at Oulton Park Daniel McKenzie of Fortec lead the National Class with forty-two points, with West-Tec driver Maxim Snegirev second with twenty-seven and Gabriel Dias for T-Sport third with fifteen.

The Sunday race saw a debut win for former Formula Three Euro series driver Renger Van Der Zande on his first start of the season for Hitech. His inclusion in the championship with such an extensive history means that he becomes the championship favorite, but has some catch up to do.

Max Chilton was second for Carlin after pushing Van Der Zande all the way without getting close enough to attack finishing half a second behind, with Adriano Buzaid of T-Sport completing the podium in third.

Riki Christodoulou was fourth for Fortec after spending the entire race with championship leader Ricciardo in fifth. Daisuke Nakajima dropped back through the race but still brought his Double R machine home in sixth. Grubmuller was seventh ahead of Tandy to take advantage in their private championship battle. Henry Arundel was ninth for Carlin with Carlos Huertas completing the top ten for Double R.

Dias won the National Class by finishing thirteenth overall, McKenzie losing his perfect record in second and Correa coming hone third out of just for National Class entries.

On Monday Ricciardo continued where he left off at Oulton Park by taking his third win of the season and in the process extending his championship lead.

He left it late after following teammate Chilton for most of the race before making his move around the outside at Stowe corner to take the lead. Demoralized by losing the lead Chilton began to fade and also lost second place to Riki Christodoulou of Fortec.

His fade continued but luckily for him the laps ticked down before fourth placed Nakajima could catch him.

Behind Nakajima the rest of the top ten were Tandy, Arundel, Grubmuller, Huertas, Oliver Oakes of Carlin and Buzaid

In the National Class fourteenth place was enough to give Dias his second class win, he was followed home by McKenzie in second with Correa the third in class and the final overall finisher as Snegirev was the races only retirement.

Ricciardo has now extended his lead in the championship to eighteen points over Tandy who is alone in second by sixty eight points to forty with Christodoulou just a point further back in third.

After a pair of second places McKenzie keeps his lead in the National Class as he now has seventy three points compared to Dias with fifty six. Snegirev is holding third place with thirty seven but he is only one point ahead of Correa in fourth.
