Tracy on top at Indy practice
PT shows speed is still there

Paul Tracy has finished his first day of Indy 500 testing in first. Tracy, who made his last start in 2002, turned the fastest lap of the day at 40.3426 seconds, 223.089 mph around the historic 2.5-mile oval. Thirteen-time starter Scott Sharp had the second-fastest lap at 221.878 mph.

"We took advantage of today, with the refresher course. There's rain in the forecast the next couple days possibly - the weather can change here at any time, so I'm pretty happy with where we're at right now," Tracy commented on his return to Indianapolis.

Together with the veteran refresher runs, six drivers took part in the rookie orientation programme. Four of them (Doornbos, Conway, Matos and Tagliani) passed yesterday's test and are cleared to run the full month. Meanwhile, Nelson Philippe and Stanton Barrett did not make it through yet at the Brickyard and have a new shot today.

If the forecasted rain stays out, Philippe and Barrett will be joined after their second rookie session by all other IndyCar aces for the first full Indy 500 practice runs.
