Tracy in for rest of season?
Foyt looking to keep PT

Paul Tracy may well be racing in the IndyCar Series for the remainder of the 2009 season. Tracy will replace injured Vitor Meira at Foyt in Milwaukee, with a view to additional races. The Canadian finished ninth in last week's Indy 500 for KV Racing and has a deal with the latter for the Canadian races at Toronto and Edmonton.

"Paul Tracy is a hard charger and our type of driver, much like Vitor," said A.J. Foyt. "I believe we can put the right equipment under Paul, and we've both had success there, so I think we can put our heads together and have a good race."

Tracy is happy to return to a track on which he has a particularly good record, winning four times at the flat Milwaukee mile in Champ Car.

"I'm excited to get an opportunity to drive albeit as a fill-in for Vitor as I know it's a short-term thing," Tracy said. "When I started my career, I competed against A.J. He was one of my idols growing up. I'm a little rough around the edges like him, and I say what I feel, and that's one of the things I've always admired about him."

For Paul Tracy, 2009 was set to be a carbon copy of 2008, in which the Canadian missed out on the Champ Car/IRL merger and only contested a single race for Vision at Edmonton. However, after his solid performance at the Speedway last week and Vitor Meira's unfortunate back injury, a door might be opening up for PT. Meira suffered two broken vertebrae in Sunday's Indy 500 after a crash with fellow Brazilian Raphael Matos and is out for the season.

After A.J. Foyt announced the popular Canadian would be in Meira's car for Milwaukee, he expressed his interest in signing Tracy for the remaining non-Canadian races.

"I'm going to talk to Paul and see what he really wants to do. Sure, we'd like to have him for all the races," said Foyt. I know he's committed for [Toronto and Edmonton]. It might be for those two races, we'll have to try somebody else, then Paul will come back after that."

Tracy added his interest in staying on at Foyt. "Obviously I want to race as much as I can. I'm a race driver that wants to race and wants to win. And A.J. is the same. So we'll see how this weekend goes and then go from there."
