Nothing conclusive to report in the second Friday session at Silverstone, apart from that Red Bull is looking very good indeed. Despite Mark Webber suffering a car-stopping failure in the last few minutes of the session, it was a Red Bull one-two again, and it was Sebastian Vettel who took top slot for the second time in the day, with a lap time of 1:19.456, just a tenth ahead of Webber.
The two RB5’s were again the only cars to get below the 1:20 level, and it was quite remarkable to see Adrian Sutil’s name in third place on the time sheets.
This being practice we have no idea of relative set ups, and it is likely he was running very light, but this was still a good effort from the Force India man, albeit seven tenths of a second off the ultimate pace.
Kazuki Nakajima went fourth fastest, not far off Sutil's time, and Fernando Alonso came in fifth in the Renault. Sixth went to Rubens Barrichello in the quicker of the two Brawns – championship leader finished in 14th, but that’s nothing unusual – and rest of the top ten reads Lewis Hamilton, for McLaren, Jarno Trulli in the Toyota, Nico Rosberg in the second Williams and Nelson Piquet in the Renault.
We will bring you coverage of the final practice, and qualifying, tomorrow.
