Henry Surtees, the 18-year-old son of 1964 Formula One World Champion John Surtees, has passed away after a tragic accident in today's Formula 2 race at Brands Hatch.
Jack Clarke lost control of his car exiting the Westfield Bend and hit the tyre wall, which ripped a tyre off his car.
The loose tyre bounced back onto the circuit and struck Surtees on the helmet, knocking him unconscious and sending him straight into the barrier at Sheene Corner.
Henry Surtees was taken to the Royal London hospital, where he died earlier this evening from his injuries.
UpdateF1 sends its sincere condolences to Henry's family and friends.
