The FIA has reopened the application process for teams that may want to take over the now vacant BMW-Sauber slot, following the failure of Peter Sauber in putting together a buy-out package.
Expected to apply are Epsilon Euskadi, the Spanish outfit run by Joan Villadelprat, with the possibility that Prodrive, led by Dave Richards, may also apply.
The latter, however, is known to be unhappy at the FIA insistence on new teams running Cosworth engines, as is the third most likely entrant Lola.
The late date means that any team entering now will be very hard pushed to make it to the grid by next season, however, and there remains the doubt that it can be achieved at all.
