The 2010 rules, published on Wednesday, feature a number of interesting changes with the most telling being the omission of any reference to the proposed ‘two tier’ system which almost brought the sport to its knees.
The major changes come with qualifying where, thanks to the new teams entering in 2010, there will be eight cars eliminated in the first two sessions, leaving ten to contest the final shoot out as now.
Furthermore, the final shoot out will now be a low fuel all out qualifying run, rather than the current much derided race fuel attempt, as there is no refuelling allowed in the 2010 regulations.
The minimum weight of each car is now 620kg, this being incorporated to take account of the weight of the KERS system despite FOTA agreeing not to use the systems from 2010, and in a surprise change the regulations continue to allow tyre warmers to be used.
