Ferrari has indicated that while Luca Badoer will be racing this weekend in the Belgian Grand Prix at Spa, there is every intention to replace him for future races should he not raise his game at the Ardennes circuit.
Badoer finished last in the European Grand Prix at Valencia on Sunday after qualifying well off the pace in 20th, and last, position; his race pace was more comparable with those around him at the tail of the field, but still too far from team mate Kimi Raikkonen's pace – the Finn finished third – to be acceptable.
Rumours in the paddock have linked Giancarlo Fisichella with the drive as the Force India pilot has been linked with a test driver’s role at Ferrari from the end of this season, but Fisichella insists no contact has been made.
Meanwhile, Anthony Davidson – out of a drive since the demise of Super Aguri last season – has indicated that he intends to contact Ferrari himself to pitch for the seat.
Other possible candidates include the recently dismissed Sebastien Bourdais and Nelson Piquet, while additional paddock gossip points towards an early move from Renault for Fernando Alonso.
