IndyCar star Danica Patrick will stay in the series by signing a new three-year contract at Andretti Green Racing.
According to The Indianapolis Star, Patrick and AGR finalised the deal at last week's race at Motegi, Japan. The news is a big boost for the series, as Danica's IndyCar future was in serious doubt amidst persistent rumours of a NASCAR switch.
Patrick, the first woman to win a major single-seater race, is currently fifth in the standings and proves to be a great asset for IndyCar. As the series is still on its back foot, a switch to NASCAR would have undoubtedly meant a cruel marketing blow.
Patrick's schedule at Andretti-Green still leaves room for a couple of NASCAR events, but the 27-year-old driver hasn't decided on a possible sidestep yet.
The news of Danica's new AGR deal will be made official around the Indycar Series season finale at Homestead-Miami on 10 October.
