As has been expected the Williams F1 team has announced that its drivers for the 2010 season will be Rubens Barrichello, the veteran Brazilian who has just enjoyed a successful season with the Brawn GP team, and Nico Hulkenberg, the teams current third driver who is very highly rated.
The news comes in the wake of last week’s confirmation that the team will use Cosworth engines next season, as opposed to the Toyota V8 that powered this season’s chassis, and means that Nico Rosberg and Kazuki Nakajima, the current driver pairing, are left to look for work.
Rosberg is believed to be taking over Barrichello’s seat at Brawn, while Toyota protégé Nakajima may find it difficult to remain in the sport, especially as he is no longer the Japanese or Toyota favourite following the recent impressive performances of Kamui Kobayashi.
Team principal Sir Frank Williams said:
"Rubens needs no introduction. He is not only the most experienced driver in Formula 1, but a passionate and talented driver who fought hard for the drivers' championship this year.
"Nico Hulkenberg won the GP2 Championship this season as a rookie and has previously won the F3 Euro Series, Formula Masters, A1 GP and Formula BMW Germany."
