Michael Schumacher will return to the track this week in a GP2 car, a precursor to his return to Formula One with Mercedes Benz.
The German will carry out the test at Jerez, in Spain, over three days this week using one of the Supernova teams’ chassis.
According to reports the test has been sanctioned by the FIA, and the news has aroused speculation that the purpose of the extended run is to analyse the state of the neck injury that halted Schumacher’s return as replacement for Felipe Massa at Ferrari last season.
The official F1 tests begin next month, when Schumacher should make his debut for the Mercedes team.
