Adrian Sutil has appeared in court in Germany to defend allegations of assault against Lotus co-owner Eric Lux. The incident allegedly took place in a nightclub on the weekend of the Chinese Grand Prix last year.
The court is due to watch video footage of the incident, which Sutil claims to have been an accident and also says he has tried everything to apologise to Lux for what happened. Lux, meanwhile, has stated that he will settle for nothing less than a personal apology from the German driver.
Lewis Hamilton was due to appear as a witness but it is believed that he will now not be able to appear.
Sutil drove an excellent season at Force India in 2011 and, despite losing his seat to Nico Hulkenberg, was in the running for the second seat at Williams.
It is not known whether the court proceedings had an impact on the team deciding not to hire him, but it is safe to say his F1 career is now very much on hold.
