McLaren’s 2012 challenger, the MP4-27, has been unveiled in front of the F1 press corps at the McLaren Technology Centre this morning.
The car, presented in the familiar silver and red colours, is surprisingly conventional at first glance.
Unlike the 2012 Caterham, unveiled last week, the MP4-27 does not feature a ‘stepped’ nose, as is expected of most cars as they strive to regain the airflow lost by the requirement for lower noses, but is a remarkably sleek and notably smooth design.
As with all F1 cars at launch there are certain to be changes to the details of the design and, quite possibly, major changes to the bodywork before the first race of the season. It remains to be seen what the claimed ‘innovations’ mentioned in yesterdays mysterious article at Autosport.com may be.
Nevertheless, there is a lot more under the skin of a modern F1 car than is visible on the outside, and we await the technical interpretations to come.
